Hot stone massage is a special massage that uses smooth heated stones. They're often basalt, a black vocanic rock that rich in iron so absorbs and retains heat well. The stones are immersed in water and heated in an electric heating device until they are within a certain temperature range. The stones may be placed at specific points on the back, in the palms of the hand, or between the toes.
It is a deeply soothing, relaxing form of massage. The heat helps release  tight muscles and improve the flow of energy, calm the nervous system in your body. The massage therapist may place stones on points that are thought to be energy centers of the body to rebalance the body and mind.
